Junior Sailing Hours
9am – 4pm, Monday-Friday, unless otherwise indicated
Youngstown Yacht Club is located at 491 Waterstreet in Youngstown, NY. Once at the bottom of the hill, you can park on the left and walk through the main double gate where you will be greeted by a coach.
Our goal is to make each day unique and FUN! Although no two days are exactly the same, there are some common routines. Each day begins with a land lesson or game and rigging of the boats. Once on the water, some groups will stay out all day, eat lunch on the water or off a beach and return in the afternoon, while others return to YYC for lunch. During the day on the water, coaches will organize games, drills, or adventure tasks on the boats to work on their skills in a fun way. All programs will be back between 2:30 and 3pm for derigging, debriefing, or some swimming.
Junior Sailing happens every day rain or shine. Our coaches have on shore lessons prepared including knot tying games, boat building, STEM activities, and more! There are very few days where the whole day has to be spent onshore.
Just let a coach know as far in advance as possible and arrangements can be made to go get them off the water if they need to be picked up.
Jr. Sailors should be comfortable in the water with a PFD on. They will be wearing their PFD all day while at the waterfront and in the boats. For first time Jr. Sailors, we will require a “Swim Check” on the first day to make sure they are comfortable with their PFD on in the water.
Please e-mail support@checklick.com and copy Jr. Sailing director Justin Hays at justinhays86@gmail.com. A ticket will be created for you if it is technical error and the problem will be fixed as quick as possible.
